Dazzle is both a traveling moving image installation with live performance, sound and virtual reality, and an artistic interdisciplinary research project. The Experience combines dance with dazzling optical illusions. It is inspired by the optimistic, rebellious spirit of the 1919 Chelsea Arts Club Dazzle Ball at the Royal Albert Hall and features eye-catching costumes that echo and exaggerate the Navy's World War I Dazzle camouflage. The hybrid VR experience invites viewers to dance with the performers, who switch between virtual and live choreography. In the worlds of the dazzling ball, dancing avatars clash against striking black-and-white backdrops. Spectators wear customized zero-waste Dazzle costumes that match the dancers' motion-capture suits. The original Dazzle Ball reflected the popularity of Vorticism, Futurism and Dadaism. DAZZLE captures our post-internet, post-truth society and explores the boundaries of interactive performance.Musically, I express myself within the project with various themes: Music for VR (Spatialized Sound design, live sound manipulation with VR controllers), dance accompaniment, visual interactive musical instruments, visual scores. Occasional quotes from 1920s music emerge and blur with artifacts and glitches of today.
